Deepening Meditation with Loving-kindness

About the Teaching

The cultivation of loving-kindness (Sanskrit: maitri; Pali: metta) allows us to contact our natural source of genuine love and concern for self and others. By facilitating this quality of the heart to arise and manifest in ourselves and in our relationship with others, we are creating the conditions for a happiness that is not dependent on holding onto people and things in our lives and resisting change. In spite of impermanence and uncertainty, we can have the confidence of living and acting from such a wholesome state of mind. In this workshop we will meditate on the ways to awaken our loving-kindness and to spread it around.

This workshop features several sessions of guided meditations with explanations and time for Q&A or discussion. All are welcome; no prerequisite needed.

Practical Buddhism Workshop: Karma: How to Make Use of It

About the Teaching

Karma simply means actions. It refers to our actions through our body, speech and mind (thoughts). Karma is often invoked by Buddhists as a way of explaining what has happened, usually by referring back to some deeds in past lives that we cannot remember. This may give a sense of comfort in the face of uncertainty, as if we have everything under control because we can explain everything with karma. However, the Buddha’s teaching of karma may also be understood as forward-looking and empowering in spite of an uncertain future. In this workshop we will work on the different aspects of the karma teaching. By repeatedly affirming our intention and direction through our choices and actions, we can create a happier life in the face of change and unpredictability.

This workshop features several sessions of guided meditations with explanations and time for Q&A or discussion.

All are welcome; no prerequisite needed.

Practical Buddhism Workshop: Finding Refuge in our Uncertain World

About the Teaching

The Buddha highlighted the reality of suffering and stress in our life during his first teaching and repeatedly returned to this theme. How does the Buddha and his teaching provide refuge and protection in the face of loss, grief, pain and uncertainty? In this workshop, we look at the classical Three Jewels of Refuge in Buddhism and examine different ways of understanding and working with them to find our own inner refuge and protection.

This workshop features several sessions of guided meditations with explanations and time for Q&A or discussion.

All are welcome; no prerequisite needed.
