Exploring the Mind Series: What is the Mind?

About the Teaching

In this new series of meditation workshops, we will examine through guided meditations the different aspects of our mind, its nature, functions and experiences of happiness and suffering. By learning the simple methods presented in this workshop, we can get in touch with the basic nature of our mind, which is always clear and aware. Against this backdrop we can see clearly our various mental and emotional habits, reinforce positive qualities conducive to peace and joy, and free ourselves from old maladaptive reactivities to find inner strength and resilience.

All are welcome; there is no prerequisite.

The workshop will feature brief explanations, guided meditations, and time for Q&A.

Realising the Dharma Series: Finding Spiritual Realisations in Our Modern Times

About the Teaching

In spite of our busy modern lifestyle and multiple commitments, we are capable of experiencing profound shifts in perspective that clarify what is happening and offer us creative responses conducive to greater happiness. To enable this possibility for such realisations, we need to gather the favourable conditions in our daily life and invest time and energy to foster such shifts. In this workshop we will look at these conditions and explore through guided meditations how they might work for us.

The workshop will feature brief explanations, guided meditations, and time for Q&A.

All are welcome; no prerequisite needed.

We Can Mould Our Mind into any Shape We Like

About the teachings

From Ven Robina  – One scientist a few years ago said that neuroplasticity “is the greatest finding of the twentieth century.” I’m glad we’re catching up with the Buddha who’s been telling us this for quite a while!

If we could have confidence in this, it’d radically change our lives. Right now, instinctively we assume that the anger, the fears, the depression are at the core of our being.

The skill we need to learn is to hear those thoughts and then to change them. But the trouble is we don’t notice what the mind is doing until our body feels it, and that’s too late.

For Buddha, what’s in my mind at this moment is mine, regardless of what triggered it; it’s mine, it’s my jealousy, my love, my compassion. This consciousness is one’s own. Awareness of this gets deeper and deeper and deeper as we go along in our practice. We really learn to own what we think and feel.

And therefore we learn to change it. As Lama Zopa Rinpoche says, “We can mould our mind into any shape we like”.
