Exploring Meditation Series: How to train in Calm-abiding

About the Teaching

This workshop will introduce the different elements of practice presented in the classic Buddhist teachings. We will look at the steps and the process of shifting our meditative experience towards a state of deepening meditative absorption and the benefits we can gain from it.

Realising the Dharma Series: Finding Connection in an Interdependent Universe

About the Teaching

The simple practice of the four immeasurable qualities of the heart–loving-kindness, compassion, appreciative joy and equanimity–is a powerful way to help us reconnect with those around us externally and all aspects of our own body and mind internally. In this workshop we learn to activate these qualities through meditation and gain access to an inexhaustible source of happiness, joy and inner strength. Therefore, they are also known as the divine abiding of the heart (brahmavihara).

The workshop will feature brief explanations, guided meditations, and time for Q&A.

All are welcome; no prerequisite needed.

Advanced Buddhism Series: Re-enchanting Our World with Buddhist Tantra

About the Teaching

With the practice of Buddhist tantra, we can return a sense of wonder and bliss into our daily encounters, re-enchanting our world by shifting our perspective. In this advanced course, we will cover important tantric principles, such as the fundamental purity of our mind, the principle of transformation, utilisation of desire and pleasure in the spiritual path, techniques for meditative absorption, and so forth, and explore them through meditations inspired by the teachings.

This course looks at the wider application of tantric principles in our daily experiences and does not contradict the traditional requirement of secrecy in tantra. No prerequisite required. All are welcome.

Exploring Buddhism: Exploring Conditions for Realisations

About Exploring Buddhism

The Exploring Buddhism Program (EB) is a new program developed by FPMT Education Services to offer an in-depth treatment of selected topics of Buddhist philosophy and practice. This program prepares one to engage in more advanced Buddhist studies, such as the FPMT Basic Program, through introducing key Buddhist philosophical concepts and connecting them to the context of practice and realization.

It also familiarizes one with text-based explanations by introducing short texts in its curriculum, such as the popular Foundation for All Good Qualities and Three Principal Aspects of the Path by Je Tsongkhapa, Eight Verses of Thought Transformation by Langri Tangpa, and Seven Point Mind Training by Geshe Chekawa.

Exploring Buddhism: Module 1 Exploring the Mind

AN INTERMEDIATE LEVEL EDUCATION PROGRAM

Exploring Buddhism

Module 1: Exploring The Mind

ABOUT

Exploring Buddhism

Exploring Buddhism (EB) is a Foundational level education program by FPMT Education Services. It is intended to follow our Discovering Buddhism (DB) program and complement the DB contents by exploring in greater detail various topics related to Buddhist philosophy and practice.

The EB program helps to familiarize students with the concept of text-based explanations in the study of Buddhist classical texts featured in our in-depth programs. The program’s syllabus covers a range of important ideas related to Buddhist philosophy, psychology and meditation. It also provides an explanation of prayers and practices commonly done in the FPMT, as well as the preliminary practices (ngondro) performed in the tradition.

The program is fully revised and is being offered at various FPMT centers. It is ideally suited for both experienced and intermediate students of Buddhism. We hope this guide will be a helpful point of departure on your journey.

You can find more about the Exploring Buddhism program offered at the FPMT Exploring Buddhism page.

Unpacking the 4 Noble Truths

About the Course

The Four Noble Truths – the truth of suffering, the truth of the origin of suffering, the truth of the cessation of suffering and the truth of the path leading to this cessation – was the first sermon the Buddha gave after he was enlightened.

In this series of teachings we will be looking at each of the Four Noble truths and diving a little deeper to unpack the four characteristics of each truth, as described in the Mahayana text Ornament of Clear Realisation (Abhisamayalamkara). The text identifies four characteristics of each truth, for a total of sixteen characteristics, which are presented as a guide to contemplating and practicing the four noble truths.
