Deepening Meditation Workshop: Stepping Out of the Tunnel Vision of Self-Centredness

In the Buddhist teachings, our tendency to grasp at an independent, unchanging self is identified as the source of our suffering. Deluded by our grasping at such a self, our thoughts, feelings and reactions spiral around such a self-image and form a tunnel that greatly limits our perspective and choices. In this workshop we will inquire into the brickwork of our tunnel through meditation to see if we can discover the gaps leading us out into a spacious presence, where we find new perspectives and options freely available to us. This workshop features several sessions of guided meditations with explanations and time for Q&A or discussion. All are welcome; no prerequisite needed.

These workshops will be presented in-person and online via Zoom. All welcome

Deepening Meditation Workshop: Meditations for Blissful Abiding of Body and Mind

The development of meditative absorption has been described by the Buddha as “a pleasant abiding in this life.” Unlike our usual associations with meditation as something difficult, frustrating and disappointing, we can transform the whole experience of learning to meditate into an interesting and exciting journey of discovery by adopting a few simple pointers to adjust our attitude, expectation and techniques. We will test out such pointers in this workshop to allow our body and mind to enter and abide in meditation pleasantly and peacefully. This workshop features several sessions of guided meditations with explanations and time for Q&A or discussion. All are welcome; no prerequisite needed.

Deepening Meditation Workshop: Meditations for a Warm Heart and a Clear Mind

Meditation is explained as familiarisation in the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism. When this familiarisation process turns out to be both pleasant and highly enjoyable, we will find very little obstacle to coming back to it again and again. Through applying the few simple principles presented in this workshop to our meditation, we can familiarise and enhance our natural qualities of loving-kindness, compassion, mindfulness and wisdom, while thoroughly enjoying the process itself. This workshop features several sessions of guided meditations with explanations and time for Q&A or discussion. All are welcome; no prerequisite needed.

Practical Buddhism Workshop: Nurturing Acceptance with Mindfulness

The R.A.I.N. method for cultivating mindfulness is a highly effective approach to enhance our natural mindful awareness through the four steps of recognition, acknowledgment, inquiry, and nurture. Skillfully applying these four steps to our changing circumstances, we discover ways of relating to our past experiences, habits, and conditions that may have caused us suffering. We can learn to accept the facts for what they are and find new, creative ways to respond to them without being limited by old patterns of reactivity. This workshop features several sessions of guided meditations with explanations and time for Q&A or discussion. All are welcome; no prerequisite needed.

Practical Buddhism Workshop: Fostering Resilience with the Dharma

The Buddha’s teachings, also known as the Dharma, contain many valuable practices for nurturing wholesome qualities of the mind and heart, such as the five powers of faith, enthusiasm, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom. We often underestimate the power residing in these wonderful qualities, regarding them as “weak” in comparison to the strength of our anger, craving and close-mindedness. In fact, when we properly develop these wholesome qualities, they become  reliable supports that greatly enhance our resilience in the face of life challenges. This workshop features several sessions of guided meditations with explanations and time for Q&A or discussion. All are welcome; no prerequisite needed.
