The Buddha has taught a series of meditations that invite us to reflect and become acquainted with the more sobering, mundane aspects of life–an unflattering view of the parts of our body, the common elements that made it up, its stages of decomposition after death, and the mindfulness of the reality of death (called the king of all mindfulness practices by the Buddha). Profoundly grounding and calming, they paradoxically open us to a deep source of joy and peace within ourselves.
