A Precious Opportunity to Receive Profound Teachings and Initiations

We are thrilled to announce that Vajrayana Institute will be welcoming to Sydney, His Eminence Jhado Rinpoche, a highly respected and prominent master of Sutra and Tantra in Tibetan Buddhism. 

Rinpoche will give teachings on Key of the Middle Way by H.H. Dalai Lama and also offer Vajrasattva Initiation (Yoga Tantra). This is a remarkable opportunity for us to learn and grow under the guidance of such an accomplished teacher.

This is a 3-day event Friday, 29th August to Sunday, 31st August, held at Vajrayana Institute.

This rare and precious opportunity to receive teachings and initiations from H.E. Jhado Rinpoche is not to be missed. 

About His Eminence Jhado Rinpoche

Jhado Rinpoche is one of the most renowned lamas of the Geluk lineage. In addition to his excellent training in the monastic system, over the years Rinpoche has received many oral transmissions and initiations from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his two principal guardians, as well as from many great masters of other traditions, including the Nyingma Master Trulshik Rinpoche and the revered Sakya Master, Chogye Trichen Rinpoche.

Recognised for his keen intelligence , kindness and dynamic teaching style, Rinpoche is also highly regarded for his ability to engage Western students.

Key to the Middle Way

9 am – 12 pm – Teachings

2 pm – 5 pm – Teachings

Rinpoche will give teachings on Key of the Middle Way by H.H. Dalai Lama. The Key to the Middle Way leads the student to the discovery of the true meaning of emptiness.

The teachings will be in Tibetan with English translation

Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st August 

Vajrasattva Initiation (Yoga Tantra)

Saturday, 2 pm – 5 pm – Initiation Preparation
 
Sunday, 2 pm – 5 pm – Initiation
 

All are welcome. Black foods such as meat, eggs, garlic, and onion should be strictly avoided for the days of the initiation.

The teachings will be in Tibetan with English translation

FAQs and Event Information

We wish to advise that the upcoming teachings and initiation by H.E. Jhado Rinpoche will now be held at Vajrayana Institute, and not Balmain Town Hall as previously advised.

The reason for the change is that, due to structural issues, the Town Hall now cannot be occupied until repairs are done.

As a result, the event will now take place at:

Parking

To avoid congestion for residents, please park in the surrounding streets away from the Centre. You shouldn’t have any trouble finding unrestricted parking in Tintern St, Prospect Rd and Victoria St.

Transport

Train

Ashfield and Summer Hill stations are located 15 15-minute walk from Vajrayana  Institute. Both Ashfield and Summer Hill stations will take you to Central Station where you can access the CBD or trains throughout Sydney, the airport and beyond.

Bus

You can catch a bus from Ashfield Station, Liverpool Rd, Stand F to Victoria Street and Clissold St and then it is a short walk to Vajrayana Institute

Food

There is no catering on site

Cafes

Envy is a popular café in Summer Hill with all-day breakfast, sandwiches and homemade cakes in a relaxed setting with a shaded courtyard. Open till 5 pm.

Sideways Café is located at 37 Constitution Rd and serves all-day breakfast as well as delicious brunch and lunch dishes, cakes and coffee. Open till 5 pm.

Restaurants

Summer Hill is home to a variety of restaurants including Indian, Nepalese, and Italian.

Ashfield is famous for its Chinese cuisine as well as boasting a selection of Japanese, Vietnamese and Indian restaurants.

What to bring

  • Your ticket or booking confirmation (on your phone is fine)

Please do not bring flower or fruit offerings as space is limited.

Initiation notes

Please avoid “black foods” (meat, fish, eggs, onions, garlic, and radishes) on the days of the initiation.

Commitments

Rinpoche has advised that the initiation will be Yoga Tantra. Those who are able, should commit to doing the Six Session Guru Yoga practice daily; for those who cannot, they should commit to daily mantra recitations.

Accessibility & etiquette

  • Please arrive 20 minutes before to be seated before the program begins.
  • Switch phones to silent. Photography or recording is not permitted.

Making offerings to Rinpoche

There may be an opportunity to make offerings directly to Rinpoche during the event. Please bring your own envelope. Khatas will be available at the venue for your convenience.

These are in-person teachings only. All teachings are held at Balmain Town Hall, 370 Darling St Balmain. Limited street parking may be available. Public transport is available. Check transportnsw.info for more information on public transport options.

Yes, bookings are essential. You can get your ticket below.

Balmain Town Hall is accessible via public transport with buses connecting it to the City (443) and the (455) Inner West suburbs parts of Leichhardt, Petersham and Campsie, Hurlstone Park. Buses do run at different timetables on weekends and weekdays, so do check the bus timetables in the links above. Direct buses from the city are around 20 minutes.

You could also stay at locations on the train lines and switch at Central to connect to a bus. To give you an indication, trips from Central to the following locations are around 30 minutes:

  • Parramatta (T2/T1 line)
  • Hurstville (T4 line)
  • Chatswood (T1 line)
